A look back at Banger Pizza in Bali, a favourite spot now sadly closed, where the Margherita shone with a smooth base, light sauce, and plenty of cheese.

Banger Pizza was a favourite of mine, and it’s a real shame they’ve since closed. The Margherita looked beautiful, with a smooth base free of polenta, which I always appreciate. It was topped with cooked basil and a scattering of dried oregano, not typical for a Margherita but part of their style. The pizza looked inviting and carried that classic simplicity that makes this test worthwhile.
The crust leaned chewy rather than crisp, with a slight doughiness in the middle. It wasn’t floury or heavy, just softer than I usually prefer. Still, it gave the pizza a comforting bite. The sauce was on the lighter side, not particularly rich, which left me wishing for a bit more depth, but it balanced nicely with the cheese.
The cheese was plentiful and well-melted, though not the strongest flavoured. It worked with the basil, which carried a touch of acidity rather than the sweeter flavour I usually look for. The six cheese pizza we tried alongside was delicious, showing they could mix things up with confidence.
Overall, Banger Pizza was tasty and satisfying. Even with small wishes around sauce richness and topping choices, it was one of the better pizzas I’ve had in Bali. I’m sad it’s gone, because this was a place I would have kept coming back to.
