Nobody flies their families and closest friends across the world for just one evening.
A Bali wedding is a week: the arrivals, the night everyone meets, the day itself, the morning after, the last long lunch before the airport. Tash at Plan A Bali wrote a lovely post on the spaces around a wedding — welcome drinks that are "almost essential", and a recovery day of "bikinis around a pool, a Bloody Mary station, a big BBQ or fry up, and endless laughs." She covered the venues. This is the food.
Here's where a pizza party fits into that week — and, going on our 2026 bookings, where couples actually choose to have one.
What couples really book
So far in 2026, of the wedding-week parties we've catered or have confirmed, more than half have been the day after the wedding. About a quarter were the welcome dinner or a pre-wedding night. The rest were the wedding day itself.
This makes sense. To each their own, but most couples picture something a bit more formal for the ceremony itself, and pizza comes to mind for the nights when everyone can let their hair down. It's social, it's easy, and it's made for grazing.
Pizza was the main meal at our founder's own wedding, for what it's worth. No surprises there!
The welcome dinner
Usually Thursday or Friday · 6–8pm · the villa the wedding party is staying in
Two families and two friend groups, meeting for the first time, most of them off a long flight. Plan A's rule for this night is the right one: nibbles and light refreshments, not a big boozy affair — and don't hold it at the wedding venue, or you've spoiled the reveal.
A pizza party in the garden of the villa is exactly that pitch. Nobody dresses up. It can be a proper dinner or just nibbles with a drink in hand — whichever the night needs. And standing around a pizza oven gives strangers an easy reason to talk — there's always something to say about pizza. Two hours from sunset, classics first so everyone's eating in minutes, then requests as the night settles — and it's an easy one to wrap up early, with the big day still ahead.
The wedding day
Ceremony about 4pm · dinner after sunset photos · cocktail-style rather than seated
Couples ask about this slot a lot, and book it less often than the nights either side of it. It's wonderful when it's right, though, and we've done big ones and small ones this year: a long table in a Munggu garden, a crowd in Sanur, on the beach in Uluwatu. It works best when the wedding is cocktail-style rather than a formal seated dinner; when the couple want the food to be part of the party rather than a pause in it; when the venue is a villa or a garden rather than a ballroom.
The Wedding Package exists for this slot: three hours of service instead of two, set-up while the ceremony is on so no one sees a van, a marquee over the station, formal uniforms, and a coordinator who works to the planner's run sheet. Pizza also has one quiet advantage over a plated dinner — it doesn't go cold while the speeches run long, because nothing is plated ahead.
If the day is a seated five-course dinner with speeches between courses, give it to the formal caterer and have us the next day. You'll enjoy us more.
The recovery day
The day after · start around 12:30 or 1pm · around a pool
The slot we book most (by quite a lot!) and the one we'd pick for ourselves. Everyone's already staying in villas. Nobody wants to get dressed up. The couple finally get to talk to the people they flew in — there's never time on the day. And the villa is paid for, so the party costs the food and the drinks.
How it runs: guests drift in from noon; start the pizzas around half past twelve, not eleven — nobody's up at eleven. Add a Bloody Mary or mimosa station by the pool if that's your crowd, the ovens going for 2-3 hours, requests flowing for fave pizzas, and a stash for later — boxed into the villa fridge for the five o'clock second wind. It's probably the easiest party of the week to host.
The hens/bucks night
The week before, or a couple of nights before · usually at a villa
Not strictly the wedding week, but it's on the same calendar and we do a lot of them. A villa, free-flow cocktails mixed on the spot by our own bartenders (same crew by another name, Bali Cocktail Party) — and two hours of pizza.
And to take it up a level, our Drag Queen Extravaganza bolts onto any party: an hour and a half of your queen working the room, two numbers lip-synced between pizza courses, and games while the ovens are going. Hens and bucks nights are the obvious fit, but birthdays and just-because parties have had them too, and you're welcome to request a particular queen.
Check your date early
An enquiry is free and commits you to nothing, and wedding dates fill up early. You don't need the guest list settled or the menu decided to check yours — and one enquiry can cover two or three nights of the week.
