At L’Osteria in Canggu, the setting is relaxed and inviting, making it a lovely spot to enjoy a night out. The group has also in Ubud, Sanur, and Uluwatu, but this visit was all about the Canggu branch.

The Margherita arrived looking great, with a nicely charred sourdough crust. The flavour of the dough was pleasant and avoided the lingering aftertaste I’d noticed in Ubud. Since it’s a sourdough base, that aftertaste can sometimes appear, but not here. The crust leaned a little too chewy and the centre was floppy, when I tend to prefer something more structured and easier to bite through.

The sauce was sweet and tasty, though not especially rich. It worked well with the other elements, even if it didn’t quite bring the depth I was hoping for. The cheese was spot on, with just the right amount to balance the base. Smaller pieces of basil were cooked into the pizza rather than whole leaves added fresh at the end, which gave the flavour a different but still enjoyable character.

Overall, this was a consistently good pizza in a great setting. L’Osteria continues to be a strong favourite in Bali and well worth a visit.
